As I approached your stall that cold morning,

Paralyzed with fear over your colic

Because they couldn’t tell me if you would live or die,

I was determined to Reiki you back to perfect health.

You just stood there, hurting, yet solid in your own power.

Your butt was turned to me,

And I could see the labored breath of your round belly.

You turned your right eye gently towards me,

Acknowledging my fear, as you always do.

And you said “It’s going to be o.k.

Come closer and have the courage

To be present with my pain and with the uncertainty of this day

And the days to come……who knows how many?”

I gently touched my nostrils to yours

And in your hot, humid breath

I found my own!
