My Little Dressage Horse
Daphne McNeill

“Eddie”

A bay in colour,

A perfect white star and an amazing black tail,

Innocence in your eyes,

You were so trusting, so giving,

We learn’t and played as we went along,

From clumsy naiveté to noble elegance we have become,

Thank you my friend,

You not only gave your heart

You helped me to find my own,

To trust in you as you always trusted in me,

Thank you my teacher

We didn’t win blue ribbons

We won what cannot be measured

To listen and to hear

To whisper no need to shout,

To speak together in grace and harmony

Thank you my friend, my teacher

From today you run free from saddle and bridle

And know how proud you have done me!

Eddie is a 16hh warmblood that I have had since 18 months old. He is 18 years old today. We have been so much together. He has taught me everything!

He has had to be retired due to an injury that prevents us from continuing in dressage. But  he has given me what words cannot describe.

He is now going to spend the rest of his days just being pampered and loved as he has loved me.

I hope that it shows how much this little horse has given me.
