I wonder at times how it could have
been
If you hadn’t been rescued
Starved, scared and distrusting.
I wonder at times how it could have
been
If you had been born on my farm,
And as a foal I could have embraced
your birth
With warm and gentle kisses.
I wonder at times how it could have
been
If you had never been whipped or
humiliated.
If instead, you had been nurtured
with hot bran mashes
In the cold winter nights of your
childhood.
But in some of my dark moments
I have looked in your eyes
And you have touched my Soul.
In those dark moments
I have journeyed into the reflective
mirror
Of your own purity,
And known the beauty of your
suffering.
